Data is the lifeblood of just about every healthcare organization and functional area today. As we collectively struggle to come to grips with the twin data and regulatory tsunamis, it is even more critical to focus on data as an asset that directly supports business imperatives. Organizations across most industries attempt to address data opportunities (e.g. Big Data) and data challenges (e.g. data quality) to enhance business unit performance. Unfortunately, however, the results of these efforts frequently fall far below expectations due to haphazard approaches. Overall, poor organizational data management capabilities are the root cause of many of these failures. This workshop will cover 1) the background in which most organizations develop their data strategies - focusing on IT projects instead of business value and organizational capabilities 2) separating strategy from tactics - architecting globally and implementing locally and 3) implementing sustainable data initiatives by adopting new approaches - switching from one- legged stools to three legged stools.
