USING DATA TO YIELD HIGH IMPACT BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

Brent Estes, President and CEO, RUSH HEALTH

Rush Health is a non-profit organization responsible for developing and executing business development strategies which position the Rush enterprise in the marketplace.  Such activities include development of health information technology and business intelligence capabilities which support quality improvement, care coordination, and business management processes.

By anchoring its strategic imperatives on a commitment to developing and maintaining a robust business intelligence environment, Rush Health is opening new doors of opportunity. These opportunities include moving compensation for medical services toward value-based payments, population management, employer direct contracting, and enhanced practice management and business operations support.

One success of this commitment is evident in the National Committee on Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) recognition of Rush Health’s effort in Patient-Center Medical Home initiatives.  In December 2011, seven Rush Health primary care practices received Level 3 recognition from NCQA - the first time academic medical center practices in Illinois were given such recognition.

This, and other Rush Health initiatives, would not have been possible without the data process and strategy currently in place.  Working alongside its clinicians and other key stakeholders within the organization, Rush Health is able to leverage business intelligence to create brand awareness, new business products and processes, and most importantly improve patient care and lower costs for purchasers.
