Patricia Ares-Romero, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer, Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital


Patricia A. Ares-Romero, MD, is chief medical officer of Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital, an 180,000-square-foot mental health hospital located in Miami-Dade County.  Jackson Health Systems is a nonprofit, tertiary care health system affiliated with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School Of Medicine.   As one of the largest and most comprehensive public-academic psychiatric programs in the U.S., Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital offers an array of interdisciplinary mental health and substance abuse services delivered in a full continuum of care within a hospital, provided by a nurturing and well-qualified staff in a supportive, safe, and family-like environment.  Dr. Ares-Romero is responsible for managing the day-to-day clinical operations at Jackson Behavioral Health.  

She is an experienced psychiatrist with a consistent history of working compassionately and competently in a diverse patient population within the community.  Demonstrating expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health illnesses by integrating evidence-based treatment modalities as well as best practices, Dr. Ares-Romero possesses the leadership skills necessary to work in conjunction with colleagues, staff, and community stakeholders to improve patient outcomes with an innovative approach to create a vision for the future of behavioral health.  

She has been a part of the Jackson Health System family for many years. Dr. Ares-Romero completed her residency training in psychiatry at University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine - Jackson Memorial Medical Center, worked as a member of the Eating Disorders Service at Jackson Memorial Hospital, served as medical director of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital, and most recently was the medical director for Behavioral Health Outpatient Services at Jackson Behavioral Health.   Dr. Ares-Romero’s professional experience also includes being medical director and a provider in her own private practice, and chief medical officer of SmartBody MD

She is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as a board member of the The National Alliance on Mental Illness and Miami-Dade County Addictions Advisory Board. Recently, Dr. Ares-Romero was appointed to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s Opioid Addiction Task Force.
